Rip Van Winkle

I have to admit, I'm a little bemused by the amount of money going on Rip Van Winkle in the Investec Derby. While his last two defeats were excusable, there is absolutely no evidence that he'll take the Derby trip. A bruised foot last time out in defeat to Sea the Stars provides a handy excuse balanced out with a good staying performance, but that was his only performance this year and provides no firm evidence of Derby form or pedigree. There are probably better horses in the Derby, and I'm scratching my head as to why people are laying sums of four figures on Rip Van Winkle.
